Here are some thoughts about trying to increase the usefulness of the 'sticky' topics here - and the site in general.

Hopefully if we get some kind of agreement we can ask Nigel nicely if he can action it. Otherwise we can just let this topic slip away into the depths accompanied with the usual exposure apathetic sigh... [img]graemlins/sleepy.gif[/img]

My suggestions are to merge the two video camera stickies into one. We currently have THREE stickies all about cameras - seems very excessive when all other areas of film-making are completely unrepresented. I think all cameras should be just one sticky (but I can see an argument for one for video and one for film so we'll go for that for now).

So... here is a list of proposed stickies people can vote by cutting and pasting this section and placing a 'FOR' or 'AGAINST" as they see fit. We can then add up the results to see what everyone thinks.

CUT AND PASTE THE SECTION BELOW AND POST IT IN THIS THREAD ADDING YOUR VOTE AT THE END OF EACH SUGGESTION:

Sticky 1: Post your useful film links here - MY VOTE: FOR
This would be the place to post any links to sound effects sites, screenwriting tips, Special effects tips, festival lists etc etc

Sticky 2: Video camera information - MY VOTE: FOR

Sticky 3: Film camera information - MY VOTE: AGAINST (I think film AND video cameras should be just one sticky called simply "Camera information"

Sticky 4: Post stills from your work here - MY VOTE: FOR

Sticky 5: Composers: Post your clips, samples and details here - MY VOTE: FOR

Of course, if anyone else has any bright ideas - add them in and people can add their votes as we go along.

I'm for them all. I would maybe suggest putting film cameras and video cameras into "Cameras" - one thread

I'd go with the one camera topic also.

Justin's other suggestions seem on the money to me.

I'd nearly suggest one just for screenwriting, but I don't think there's nearly enough writers on the board to make it viable.

No, I don't think thats good (composer/crew thing) Those stickies will die down after a number of posts anyway.

And nigel - a camera is a camera. It's pro-film people like you who want to keep the video and film thing seperated - while most of us here dont give a damn. You need to to have a useful sticky, not too much, and it should not die either. Look at the posts in the ones that exist now. They've died down after 15 or 20. They could easily be in one topic. Set aside your personal believes for this one [img]wink.gif[/img] .

And by a film discussion sticky I meant for existing films you've seen. Like reviews and recommendations. You don't want to make a new topic for every film you've seen, but you could post a reply of them in the stickied film topic.

Stickies are made to restrict the number of topics with the same subject. To show some first hand information to newcomers. To keep the information as organized as possible. Right?

Just because they have stopped having posts at 15-20 doesn't mean that people don't read them....

As for the movie sticky. I will say right now that I don't like that.

What is the point of having a board if everything is a sticky??

Remember that thread about people teaming up to make a short?? That wasn't a sticky and it seems to do just fine.

I think sticky 4 and 5 should melt together as well.

This would be my way to go:

sticky 1: cameras
sticky 2: your own work
sticky 3: useful info (links/books etc)
sticky 4: film discussion
